Let’s Get Sporty! Bra Review

Those who know me, know that I love fashion.  Unfortunately for the Bear and the pocket book, I have really been getting into fitness fashion lately.  A few months ago, I purchased Lululemon’s Energy Bra, and I fell in love! It provides the perfect amount of support for my medium sized chest.  Along with the cute design, I have found this bra comfortable and breathable. It does not make me feel smothered like some other bras I have used in the past.

At $48 a pop for the Lululemon Energy Bra, I was super excited to find that Forever 21 carried a surprisingly similar bra!  It had me thinking that they might use the same manufacturers, so I bought one in pink and seafoam at $13.80 a piece…

Then I ran 4 miles in the pink Forever 21 bra.  During the run, the bra was supportive, comfortable, and breathable.  It felt just like the more expensive Lululemon Energy bra.  It was all good and dandy until I went to take a shower.  To my horror, the pink dye in the Forever 21 bra rubbed off all over me!

Okay, so I may be a little over dramatic, but I was very disappointed the pink dye transferred to my skin.  I then tried running in the seafoam Forever21 bra.  The seafoam color did not transfer to my skin like the pink had done, so I was happy again!

Verdict! If you have $48 to spend, go for the Lululemon Energy Bra.  If $48 is a little rich for your blood (like mine), buy the Forever21 bra.  Just wash it two or three times before you wear the pink color!

  1. Hey Jillienne,

I would like to point out some things regarding bras, because I used to sell bras for Macy’s and I feel passionate about helping women from “inside out”. Anyway, I am going to call out a few things that perhaps you can share with your reader. Note that I am not associated with either brand nor working in that field anymore.

    1. You get what you paid for, Forever 21 bras are not designed to last a long time. With similar caring strategy, you might get half the life out of Forever 21 bras than Lulumelon. Consider the math – a Lulumelon bra probably will last you two to three years if you alternate and don’t subject it to hot heat of dryers. Forever 21 bra probably will last you a year, if that. So it is way cheaper to get invest in a good bra.

    2. I would love to see your response after wearing and washing both of them several times. I doubt they will hold up the same. I won’t even go into the stitching, construction, etc.

    3. Now to the serious issue of “supporting”, if you look at the photos you took for both bras, the Forever 21 one is a kind of see through, and it showed you had “cleverage” and “spillage” going on. That is telling me this bra is just “containing” the tissues, not “holding/supporting” the tissues. Meaning when you are running the breasts are not held in place to prevent jiggling (which will cause back back in short term and sagging in long term). Another telltale is your breasts sit slightly higher and closer to your body with Lulumelon bra than Forever 21, that means they are better supported and constrained.

You are young, so the difference will not be prominent, but I can’t tell you how many times ladies came back looking to me to thank me their backaches/shoulder aches are gone as soon as I switch them to the right fit and right kind of bra.

Just some food for your thought and I would love to see a follow up review from you after using both. :)

    • Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment! I love getting advice from experts in the field. While I haven’t noticed any back pain from either bra, I would say the Forever21 bra is a little tighter on me than the Lululemon bra. However, both bras felt the same on my body while I went running. I don’t have a large chest, but I can understand that back pain is an issue for other women. I agree that it’s worth the extra money to buy the higher quality Lululemon bra that will last longer. I may have to do a follow-up post in a few more months.
